Floor Shopping Quick·Step® Spotlight

Choose a FloorScore® Certified Floor for Safe Indoor Air Quality.

There are a lot of decisions to make when you’re purchasing a laminate floor. Color, style, texture, budget, plank width, plank length, plank thickness, and on and on. It can be overwhelming (which is why we’ve compiled a blog on things to think about when purchasing flooring).

One of the most important things to consider is something you may never have heard of: FloorScore® certification.

Wait … what is FloorScore certification?

The short answer: flooring that is FloorScore certified is safe for your home and your family.

Ninety percent of our lives are lived indoors. So any product that gives off noxious odors — perfumes, paints, pesticides, gasoline — gets trapped and magnified in enclosed spaces. As a result, indoor spaces are up to ten times more polluted than the outdoors! That’s a big problem.

These gases, called Volatile Organic Compounds, or VOCs, affect people in wildly different ways. Some people hardly react at all, while others can develop irritated eyes, breathing difficulties or even nerve damage.

That’s why responsible manufacturers like Quick•Step are committed to building flooring that minimizes VOC emissions and helps to create healthier air.

FloorScore is a voluntary testing program that certifies that hard surface floors are in compliance with stringent indoor air quality emissions. The program was developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) along with Scientific Certification Systems (SYS) to test and certify flooring products for compliance with indoor air quality emission requirements adopted by the state of California.

The FloorScore Seal means safe indoor air quality.

The FloorScore Seal means safe indoor air quality.

Products that carry the FloorScore seal have been independently tested and certified by SCS Global Services for safe indoor air quality. You’ll find the seal prominently displayed on packaging or in marketing materials of manufacturers that are compliant with the program. Rest assured that all Quick•Step products not only pass the FloorScore certification, but meet or surpass all industry standards for quality.

What about formaldehyde? Does it check for that?

First, formaldehyde is a naturally occurring compound in wood, but Quick•Step never adds formaldehyde to any of our flooring products, including our laminate floors.

And, second, yes: FloorScore testing does check for elevated levels of formaldehyde, which means you cannot receive certification unless the flooring meets California’s stringent environmental regulations.

So when you’re shopping for a new floor, look for a beautiful floor that not only meets your needs, but also helps ensure safe air quality within your home.
